Demian J. “Dem” McGarry has focused his practice on providing assertive, diligent yet sensitive representation to clients facing issues of divorce, custody, visitation, international custody, property distribution, post-divorce enforcement actions, pre-marital and post-marital agreements, and family law appeals.
Mr. McGarry has experience in the courts throughout northern Virginia and welcomes cases from Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Loudoun and Fauquier. Mr. Mr. McGarry maintains an active caseload in the District of Columbia and invites those with matters in Washington, DC to inquire about his services. While reaching an amicable settlement first is ideal, Mr. McGarry has extensive experience in high conflict divorce and custody cases and does not shy away from litigation. Mr. McGarry also is an experienced appellate attorney and has several reported and unreported family law cases before the Virginia Court of Appeals.
Mr. McGarry received his undergraduate degree from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1998, where he majored in Public Policy with a concentration in European History and graduated Cum Laude. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Mr. McGarry received his J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia, where he was Vice President of the Trial Advocacy Association and a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
His professional experience includes having his own solo practice and eight years as an associate alongside a veteran member of the Virginia family law bar in Alexandria, Virginia. A member of the Fairfax Bar Association, Mr. McGarry is a conciliator with the Bar’s Motions Conciliation Programs, where he assists counsel and pro se litigants to resolve their Friday motions disputes. He has previously served on the Board of Governors of the Virginia Young Lawyers Conference was listed for several years as a “Rising Star” in Virginia’s Super Lawyers magazine. Mr. McGarry has been a participating attorney in the Alexandria Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court’s Resolver Program that assists pro se litigants in reaching agreements in custody and visitation disputes. Mr. McGarry has extensive experience representing the unique family law needs of our servicemen and women and has taught continuing legal education seminars to attorneys and JAG officers.
